Posted on July 17th, 2009 by Dave Luckett
It’s hard for even the most seasoned experts to tell when a video is going to go viral, just ask Dan Hannan who shot to international fame with his video attacking Gordon Brown.
The latest viral video was started last night by fellow blogger and friend Richard Willis yesterday afternoon after he received an interview with Labours Reading West PPC Naz Sarkar broadcast on BBC Radio Berkshire, and since then it seems to have picked up a lot of attention.
So far it’s popped up in numerous places:
- Top journalist Oliver Kamm from the Times said “It’s excruciating”
- Uber-blogger Iain Dale described it as “The most hapless political interview of the year”
- An unofficial Army Rumours website - “Witness what is being hailed as one of the worst radio interviews ever given”
- and of course the Subaru Enthusiast website - “Oh dear. Will always look out for Reading having lived there, but that’s not a good sign for the town.”
- and on numerous twitter feeds.
- UPDATE 1: Paul Waugh from the Evening Standard describes it as “one of the most embarassing political interviews I’ve ever heard.”
UPDATE 2 - Saturday 18th July @ 6pm: It’s continued to spiral, numerous more tweets and has been covered by numerous more blogs:
- Labour Home - “Just listen to the interview. Omg!! Enough said.”
- The Flashing Blade - “You really have to wonder why he was selected when there were many more applicants who would have been better for the job.”
- The Party’s Over - “Oh well, Labour have obviously given up. What an utter insult to the voters of Reading…”
- Conservative Home - “Naz Sarkar, is humiliated…”
Another cringeworthy video has also surfaced on the Newbury Today website.
